Website builders are being extensively used for developing websites in the current scenario. Moreover, it yields customizable results and alterations can be made at any point of time with extreme ease. However, if you are planning to use a web builder for developing a website, you will have to choose from the two available options:

To start developing the website, you must be aware of the basic differences among the two. The choice is usually made on the basis of inputs, purpose and application of the website.

The major differences between the two web builders can be elaborated as:

  1. The same difference holds which is between an internet application and a software.

    • It is perhaps the most palpable difference.
    • The online web builder is simply an internet or web application which is not stored on your computer.
    • The offline web builder is one such software which would occupy some space in your computer and will operate there itself.
    • Evidently, the online web builder is better in the sense that it is aided with better tech support from the entire World Wide Web while the offline web builder has restricted resources.
  2. In context of hosting

    • An online web builder will require a specific domain name and a host where you would be working.
    • There are numerous sites which provide a diverse range of web hosting solutions.
    • With offline web builders, there are no such requirements of hosting.
    • However, after you are done with your offline website, you will need a host and you will need to upload it.
    • Only after uploading on a host with a domain name can your website go live.
  3. Restriction on basis of date

    • The online web builder is dependent on the dates; the downloaded web builder software will become outdated unless a huge chunk of money is not paid up to support the upgrades
    • It is necessary to use the most advanced software so that there are minimum conflicts and issues.
    • Moreover, it also implies that the features of the website can be improved at a faster pace since you can exploit the latest updates available online which are absent on the offline web builder front.
  4. Difference in context of expenses

    • This is indeed the most significant difference and it drives and decides a major portion of the selection criteria.
    • You need to finalize the budget of your website and crosscheck if what you are getting is worth the money you are spending.
    • If the purpose or the application of website is worth the expense, you can certainly opt for it.
    • Contrary to major perception, hosting is not an issue here.
    • It is needed in both of them.
    • However, if you have downloaded an offline web builder and you want to use the same, you will have to buy the software before you can commence your work.
    • This cost is obviously additional to the hosting expenses.
    • Hence, online web builder are deemed to be a better bet.

  1. It’s always nice to be able to access your website through a web browser rather than having to go back to the computer where your software is installed. For this reason I think online website building tools are better… or maybe just more convenient. There is also the matter of security that comes with hosting your own website versus having it hosted for you. For what you spend to buy Dreamweaver you can pay for at least a year of online web site building service.
